Dear Community Members and Guests,

Welcome to the website of Cedar International School, an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School serving 240 students from Pre-kindergarten to Grade 12. Located on the island of Tortola in the beautiful British Virgin Islands, Cedar has provided a first-rate, independent school education for international and local families for more than two decades.

What makes Cedar such an exciting place for education? Plenty.

Challenging Academics

  • As an IB World School, Cedar offers the internationally acclaimed IB programme at all three levels: Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP).

  • Cedar’s low student-teacher ratio (8 to 1) and small class sizes (average: 14 students) lead to a highly personalized and supportive learning environment.

  • A first-rate faculty employs innovative teaching methods in a collaborative atmosphere that encourages subject area integration, student inquiry, and authentic learning.

  • With accreditations by both the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Council of International Schools, and three authorisations by the International Baccalaureate Organisation, our programmes are internationally acknowledged for quality.

  • With an 85 percent IB diploma pass rate, our graduates exceed the worldwide pass rate average (80 percent) and are well prepared to attend top universities around the world.

Facility and Resources

  • With SMART boards (interactive white boards) in every classroom, a dedicated computer lab, and wireless Internet access throughout campus, technology enhances our students’ learning experience across subject areas.

  • Dedicated classrooms for the arts and music, separate early childhood and elementary playgrounds, and an athletic pitch and basketball court all ensure a well-rounded curriculum promoting creativity, activity, and health.

  • With a newly expanded campus overlooking the Caribbean Sea, our students study in one of most beautiful locations on earth!

 Full-Spectrum Experience

  • Our challenging academic curriculum includes an emphasis on art, music and athletics.

  • Community service and travel experiences promote responsible citizenship and cross-cultural understanding in our school community and beyond.

  • A wide offering of clubs and sports, capitalizing on our Caribbean location, provides learning, social, and leadership opportunities beyond the school day.

A Diverse, Collaborative, and Welcoming Community!

  • Students representing 40 different nationalities make Cedar a diverse and special place to be, each and every day.

  • Cedar is led by a dedicated team of administrators, staff and teachers from eight different nations who infuse the school with a spirit of collaboration.

  • An active parent body becomes part of the fabric of the Cedar community and a partner in the educational experience.

  • Cedar is overseen by a motivated board of directors that cares about the school’s mission and takes pride in the school’s success.

I urge you to learn more about the Cedar community and to come visit our campus. You’ll sense immediately that you are in a place where teachers, staff, and students challenge and support one another, care for one another, laugh and grow together, and take pride in one another’s success. In short, Cedar is what a school should be!

Warm regards,

Scott Crawford, M.Ed.
